Rosemount, MN was established as a township in 1856 and the city was incorporated in 1972. Rosemount is located in Dakota County and is considered to be part of the south metropolitan Minneapolis/St. Paul area. Rosemount is home to the 14th largest oil refinery in the United States and the largest in Minnesota-Pine Bend Refinery. Pine Bend Refinery is one of the largest employers in the Rosemount area. Minneapolis/St. Paul International airport is also a major employer of Rosemount citizens.
The population in Rosemount in July 2008 was approximately 21,197. Rosemount being considered a commuter community, Rosemount residents spend on average 25 minutes commuting to work. Rosemount has preserved 302 acres of land consisting of 23 parks. Rosemount being bordered by the Mississippi River, Rosemount has 270 acres in the Spring Lake Regional Park Reserve. Rosemount recently built the Rosemount Community Center that has a variety of functions including gymnasium, ice area, meeting rooms, auditorium, and indoor recreation options. Another popular destination is the world renowned Minnesota Zoo located just minutes away.
