Elko New Market is a commuter community located just south of the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area in Scott County Minnesota. Elko and New Market were separate communities until a merger vote passed in 2006 to combine the two communities. This combined both city services into a single service which has benefited the citizens of the community by reducing city costs. The population of Elko New Market is around 3,788 with a total of approximately 1,216 households. Elko was founded in 1856 as a railway village with some interesting stories about what the original village was like.
Elko New Market is located just off of Interstate 35 exit 76 on Scott County Highway 2. Elko New Market is part of two different school districts. New Market has one public school Eagle View Elementary. Children from New Market are part of the Independent School District 721 New Prague Area Schools. Children from Elko are all part of the Independent School District 194 Lakeville Area Public Schools.
Elko New Market has one building registered on the National Resister of Historic Places. The New Market Hotel and Store (also known as Shea’s Hardware) is located in downtown New Market on Highway 2. Elko New Market has a large attraction during racing season. Elko Speedway features the NASCAR racing series with weekend races. A popular event with the fans is the Eve of Destruction which has many fan favorite events. Live music is offered in the clubhouse along with food and beverages.
