Burnsville MN is a southern suburb of the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area. Located just 15 miles from downtown Minneapolis makes this community highly desirable. Burnsville had approximately 59,000 residents in 2007. Burnsville is the tenth largest community in the metro area. Burnsville has many attractions including the regional mall The Burnsville Center, Alimagnet Dog Park, Murphy-Hanrehan Park, Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge, and skiing area Buck Hill. Centrally located makes freeway access easy to other areas of the metro area. In 2000, Burnsville started a downtown community called Heart of the City featuring urban-style retail and condominiums. Burnsville has 26.7 square miles with 1.9 square miles of water.
Burnsville is served by several different school districts. Burnsville Independent School District 191, Independent School District 196 (serving 20% of the residents), and Independent School District 194 (serving 10% of the residents). District 191 currently has one high school, three middle schools, and 10 K-6 elementary schools.
